In today’s 3-2 win for Getafe over Osasuna, MASON GREENWOOD made his debut off the bench to mixed reviews.
In the 77th minute, with the score equal at 2-2, manager José Bordalás made a substitution for Greenwood.
The Getafe supporters welcomed Greenwood as a replacement for forward Juanmi Latasa in a largely favorable manner.
However, with only 9,000 spectators in the 16,000-seat Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez, it wasn’t the best turnout.
There are often 12,000 people present.
Guillermo Rai of The Athletic reported that Osasuna supporters were yelling “Greenwood die” and appeared to be jeering the player.
Greenwood hasn’t played in 20 months; his last game was for Manchester United in January 2022 against West Ham.
After being detained on suspicion of rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily damage, the winger was later suspended by United.
The CPS withdrew all criminal allegations against Greenwood in February of this year as a result of “the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light.”
After conducting an internal investigation into Greenwood, United came to the conclusion that he would not represent them on the field in August.
“All those involved, including Mason, recognize the challenges with him resuming his career at Manchester United,” the statement read. Therefore, it has been decided that doing so outside of Old Trafford would be most suitable. We will now work with Mason to make that happen.
Due to this, Greenwood was permitted to continue playing football abroad, and on the final day before the deadline, he signed a loan agreement with Getafe. After being introduced in the 77th minute, Greenwood quickly won two corners. When Nemanja Maksimovic scored off a Carles Alena corner kick in the second, Getafe went up 3-2. The players from CA Osasuna made some agricultural challenges against the United loanee. Iker Munoz, a central midfielder, gave Greenwood a hard challenge in the middle of the field.
