Why Serena Williams Isn’t Honored at Wimbledon in 2023 Alongside Roger Federer

Roger Federer and Serena Williams are two of the biggest names in the world of tennis, who continue to stay in the public eye despite having retired from the game. Both of them are holders and creators of many all-time records and have an influence that goes beyond just tennis. One of the reasons for the impact they have had on professional tennis is their performances and achievements at the Wimbledon Championships.

Williams made her debut at the All England Club in 1998 and played last there in 2022. She’s won as many as 14 titles at Wimbledon, 7 of those coming in the women’s singles event and the other 7 in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events combined. And most years when she didn’t win titles, she made it to the finals or the last four.

On the other hand, Federer chose to focus on his singles game and excelled at it. Federer made Wimbledon his own starting in the year 2003, becoming the second men’s player in the Open Era to win 5 back-to-back titles at SW19, after the legendary Bjorn Borg. However, the one record the Swiss maestro holds to date by himself is winning 8 titles in his career.

Wimbledon to honor Roger Federer on 20th anniversary of first title Roger Federer will be seen in the stands on the second day’s play on Tuesday. Co-incidentally, July 4 is just two days prior to the day when he won his first-ever Grand Slam, i.e., it was the Wimbledon 2003 Championships. He built a fan base from that day on which has pretty much grown astronomically, as many remember his famous win over Australia’s Mark Philippoussis in the final at the iconic Centre Court.

Federer will be present when the Wimbledon organizers will be showing a film in his honor, featuring highlights from his illustrious career and some of his special moments, more so when he played the tournament. The relationship between the 20-time Grand Slam champion and the tournament was evident last year as well when he was invited as a spectator, which was a moving experience for him.

The other person who was invited alongside him is Serena Williams. However, she won’t be able to make it as she is expecting her second child with husband and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian. It remains to be seen if Serena joins in the celebrations or sends across a special video message, which could be shown to fans at the arena and across the world too. This would be the first year of the Wimbledon not featuring her in any capacity in quite a while, as she retired from the game after her US Open appearance in 2022.

Serena Williams husband, house and net worth Serena Williams is supported tremendously by Alexis Ohanian, as the couple is going strong with their daughter, Olympia. They reside in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California. She purchased a $7.5 million property, becoming neighbors to some of the most influential celebrities in the world, back in 2017 as per multiple reports. As of 2021, the tennis legend planned to spend most of her post-retirement life in Miami, Florida.

According to the Daily Express, Serena Williams’ net worth is roughly $290 million. Williams is one of the richest female sportspersons of all-time, earning $450 million in prize money and another $340 million in sponsorship deals over the years. However, her legacy will largely be seeped in fighting tooth and nail with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for the majority of her career, as she has made calls for keeping the same prize money for women alongside the likes of her sister Venus Williams and Billie Jean King among others.
