The Reasons Why the Rivian R1T is an Exceptionally Secure Pickup Truck for Families

Rivian’s R1T electric pickup truck packs plenty of safety features, such as lane keep and emergency braking, and the R1T also has high IIHS scores.

There’s no denying just how good the Rivian R1T pickup truck is. The R1T is a truck that provides plenty of range and power, with up to 835 hp on offer from the startups electric pickup truck. It put many of its main rivals on notice, but its also one of the safest pickup trucks on the world too. In some of its safety tests it has scored some of the highest rankings seen on a modern vehicle.

Coupled with the performance, the practicality and the styling, it is clear that Rivian has created a real winner. As safety is a big aspect to any vehicles success, it looks like that is another area that Rivian have nailed as well. Something that consumers will be very happy about.

Checking out the IIHS website for the Rivian R1T reveals plenty of positives for the automotive manufacturer. For all the sections under crash worthiness, the R1T has scored a G for good under every section. That is the highest rank possible for any vehicle on the IIHS. This section includes areas such as the head restraints and seats, the strength of the roof and the side test. Both in the original crash test and in an updated crash test. For crash avoidance, the R1T has scored itself incredibly well too.

There are four areas covered by the IIHS under crash avoidance and mitigation. Only in one area does the R1T not score the top ranking. This is front crash prevention with vehicle-to-pedestrian at night. The R1T scores a two out of three, or advanced, in this area. But for the others it is either a three out of three for superior, or a good. These are impressive figures for a company that didn’t exist 15 years ago and currently has two great EVs on sale. A video of the Rivian’s crash test also backs up the statistics for the R1T. The R1T also has some impressive safety tech onboard as well.

Driver Assistance Technology Helps To Keep The R1T Incredibly SafeRivian R1T Frontal Collision Damagevia IIHS

Driver assistance features can be very hit-and-miss. But the ones on the R1T seem to work incredibly well. There is a complete suite of assistance technologies. Including adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking and lane keep assist. The latter of course ensures that the R1T will remain centered in its late. Features like automated emergency braking will see the R1T apply brakes automatically. This happens should anything appear in front of the pickup. A 360-degree camera works well in helping the driver to avoid various hazards.

The forward collision warning is another key safety feature. This system will monitor the prevalent traffic conditions with various sensors. If a potential collision then presents itself, it will alert the driver with various visual warnings as well as audio warnings. Should it get to the point where a collision is inevitable, then the system will simply apply the brakes to either avoid the crash, or reduce the effects. These features seem to perform particularly well on the R1T. So its safety suite is mightily impressive. But it has plenty of other features and attributes that help make it a great pickup truck.

The R1T is in a field of fierce competition, but its one it stands out in. Thanks to its dual-motor drivetrain, the Rivian R1T has up to 835 hp on offer with an astounding 908 lb-ft of torque. Three battery packs then allow the consumer to choose various options for range. These go from the 260-mile base pack, the 314-mile middle ground edition and then the 400-mile pack. When you see the max range of the Ford F-150 Lightning is 320 miles, you know Rivian have done a good job.

The only major downside here is the price. The F-150 Lightning costs $40,000, reasonable for modern vehicles at least. However, the R1t starts at $74,800. Whichever way you look at it, that is a lot of money for any vehicle. Something that needs to change in the future.

Despite its high price tag, the R1T is an extremely capable pickup truck. One that features an abundance of safety features to help make it world leading. Safety might not be the most glamorous subject to talk about, but it is arguably the most important. A safe vehicle gives those inside the best chance of survival should the worst happen. With all that safety you get a highly practical electric truck, with some interesting design features and more than enough power for the average user. Other companies could learn a lot from the features that help make the R1T such a safe pickup truck.
