Katie is the 6th of 8 children of Angie and Danial Renfroe couple living in Paxton, Florida, USA. Right from the early stages of pregnancy, doctors noticed Katie’s abnormality on the ultrasound film. “The baby’s head was oddly shaped,” recalls dad Danial.
Three and a half months in the womb, Katie’s head has grown to three times normal. Doctors warned Renfroe and his wife in advance about the syndrome their baby had and the difficulties they would face. However, they decided to keep the baby.
Katie was born by caesarean section on January 28, 2008 with cheeks as big as two oranges, curved lips, deformed ears and poor hearing.
The surgery will give Katie hope for a normal life.
It is expected that Katie will have surgery to correct the above situation. She will have part of her brain removed to control seizures that occur 50 times a day, reduce the size of her cheeks, orthopedic ears and shorten her tongue.
