Serena Williams joined other celebrities and athletes to watch the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday. Accompanied by her husband, Alexis Ohanian, the former tennis player walked the event’s red carpet in a fiery-red midi dress.
Williams’ dress was made of lace, tulle and chiffon panels that intrinsically created a body-con structure with draping detail. The dress, part of Dolce & Gabbana’s fall 2023 collection, also featured tulle lining and sheer long sleeves.
The founder of Wyn Beauty completed her look with a red leather bag, also from the Italian fashion house, and brown leather pumps.
The tennis champion has competed in four Olympic Games: 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2016. She has won four Olympic gold medals. Three of her gold medals were won in women’s doubles, all with her sister Venus. In 2012, she won the gold medal in singles tennis completing her career Golden Slam — all four Grand Slam titles plus an Olympic gold medal in singles.
The opening ceremony will take place along the river Seine. Princess Charlene of Monaco, U.S. First Lady Jill Biden, Nina Dobrev, Chrissy Teigen and Ariana Grande are some of the celebrities in attendance. The ceremony will feature the traditional parade of athletes from 206 national Olympic committees traveling on nearly 100 boats. The parade will pass by famous Parisian landmarks such as Notre Dame, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.
The 2024 Paris Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, will take place through Aug. 11. This edition marks the centenary of the last time Paris hosted the Games in 1924.
