Casper Ruud reveals Roger Federer was in a good mood and “joking all the time” during his farewell at the 2022 Laver Cup. Federer, one of the greatest and most beloved players in tennis history, retired from pro tennis after teaming up with Rafael Nadal for a doubles match at the Laver Cup last September.
After the match was over, Federer became very emotional and Nadal followed. But apart from that emotional and a bit sad scene, Federer kept it light and made sure everyone would have a blast during the event. “Obviously last year during the Laver Cup I had one of the most enjoyable weeks of my life being around four great champions, legends in my eyes, with Roger, Rafa, Novak, and Andy.
They had a really good, fun sort of connection, all of them, and they were joking all the time. Roger was in a very good mood even though the last match and after was, of course, very sad. But during, before and after as well, he was always just joking around.
It was very fun. So I think one of those guys for sure,” Ruud said, per Sportskeeda.
Ruud had the honor to be a part of Federer’s farewell Ruud, 24, enjoyed a career-best season in 2022 as last year the Norwegian made his first two Grand Slam finals and also achieved a career-high ranking of No 2 in the world.
Last year, Ruud reached new heights and gained some new fans. Ruud, now ranked at No 4 in the world, admits it is nice to see people wanting to take selfies with him and kids asking him to sign autographs. “I think getting some recognition and attention is nice in a way.
It does sort of change your daily routine and life a little bit because, you know, in some cases if you go somewhere, public or especially here in a Grand Slam or in tournaments, typically before I would finish practice, and I would just go to the locker room and cool down or whatever, but here I have to sort of set off 10 to 15 minutes with fans that want autographs and pictures and stuff,” Ruud said.
