Finding Tony, the highly anticipated independent film directed by Raven Magwood Goodson and executive produced by NBA star Anthony Davis, is set to premiere on May 9, 2024, during a private VIP screening in Los Angeles. Following the premiere, the film will be exclusively released on May 10th on watch.findingtonyfilm.com. It will also be available on Amazon, Apple TV, and other TVOD platforms in June.
Finding Tony tells the story of a widowed NBA star who loses everything after his wife is murdered. Reluctantly, he begins coaching a junior college women’s basketball team, where he encounters an orphaned basketball prodigy who will profoundly impact his life. The film addresses themes of depression, mental health, grief, alcoholism, and overcoming obstacles. With a star-studded cast including Stephen Bishop, Raquel Justice, David Banner, and Columbus Short, Finding Tony delivers messages of hope and triumph in a family-friendly manner.
The film’s first screening occurred during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis on February 17th. The event, in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA), featured executive producers, cast members, NBA players, and other notable figures. A special screening for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is planned in late April in Atlanta, where students will have the opportunity to preview the film, interact with the cast and crew, and engage in conversations about mental health.
