Before the 2024 Olympics Kick Off: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry Channel the Iconic Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird Photo

Fans had been waiting impatiently for Magic Johnson and Larry Bird’s legendary picture from the 1992 Olympics since Steph Curry showed Marc J. Spears of ESPN’s Andscape that he, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant had replicated.

USA Basketball eventually posted the picture on Sunday, just before the team’s 2024 Paris Olympics opening game against Serbia. The picture came with a caption:

Why do Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and Magic Johnson hold up numbers 1, 2 and 3 with their fingers in the famous Dream Team picture? - Quora

“A generational trio”

The picture varies somewhat from the original one. Jordan was seated in the original photo; Bird was to his right and Magic was to his left. All three players in the 2024 picture are standing; James is in the middle, Curry on his right, Durant to the left.

There's a new sheriff in town and his name is Michael Jordan" - Magic Johnson recalls Michael Jordan's "It's my league now" comments as he and Larry Bird were on their way

Although the exact picture Steph Curry mentioned is unknown, it most certainly is this one. And basketball players all across will undoubtedly have a field day responding to something more iconic than this drops.

Team USA will launch their 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday following continuous comparisons.

Teams USA led by LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry-led Dream Team USA vs 1992 Dream Team

The 1992 USA men’s basketball team is absolutely legendary. Following a difficult 1988 Olympics, Team USA chose to include NBA players for the following Games. The assembly of the team came to be known as the Dream Team. Michael Jordan led it mostly, and stars including Magic Johnson and Larry Bird abound.

Magic and Bird were nearing the conclusion of their careers, however players like Charles Barkley stood up and Team USA dominated the field. The 2024 team, with its star-studded composition—especially with LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry—has been likened to the Dream Team.

Also there have been assertions that this squad might outperform the 1992 one. That has been fiercely attacked, though, following Team USA’s difficulty to defeat Germany and South Sudan in the run-up to the Olympics.

Although the criticism is justified, it also should be mentioned that basketball is more worldwide today than it was in 1992. NBA players abound in almost every single team. James Harden’s 2018 NBA MVP title is the final U.S.-born player to win, therefore highlighting the worldwide character of the game.

LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant will be focused on earning gold in Paris as the globe argues which team is better.
