Elena Rybakina, the defending Wimbledon champion, is sweeping victories like a pro. She is trying her best to make this Wimbledon a perfect bet for her second Grand Slam title. While she has made it halfway to the trophy, the 24-year-old tennis player also accomplished an incredible milestone at Wimbledon. After sailing to the fourth round, Rybakina is now in an elite club with American tennis legend Serena Williams.

The Kazakhstani tennis player defeated Katie Boulter in a late-night third-round match on centre court, and eliminating the last British singles tennis player at Wimbledon. Despite the fact that it’s a huge relief, she also created history in such a way that she will be named second after the American legend.

Elena Rybakina creates history after Serena Williams

The world number 3 ranked tennis player, after reaching the 4th round of the tournament, has embedded her name in tennis history. While the defending champion continues to maintain her dominant run at Wimbledon. She also created history by entering the fourth round of the tournament. Apart from the fact that she defeated the last British single player at Wimbledon.

She is now the first defending champion to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon since former tennis legend, Serena Williams. The American tennis legend achieved this feat, back in 2016, after she made her way to the Wimbledon finals, after winning for 6th Wimbledon title just a year ago in 2015.

Although she wished to clinch her seventh title that year, but things didn’t go her way. While the 24-year-old tennis player’s hunger for more victories is something that is lauded in the tennis world.

After the amazing third-round victory, the number three seed shared her excitement about making her way to the fourth round. She said, “Today I played really well and am really happy with my performance. I was focused from the beginning till the end.”

Nevertheless, after winning her maiden title at Wimbledon last year by defeating Ons Jabeur. It won’t be wrong to say that she is striving hard to keep on defending her title. Well, earlier this year, during the Australian Open, the 24-year-old tennis player was compared to Williams as the tournament experts laid down a big claim.

Rybakina asserts tennis talent similar to Williams

Sam Smith, a former tennis player who is now a broadcaster, compared the Kazakhstani tennis player to Serena Williams in terms of playing style, according to the Daily Telegraph. Apart from the fact that they both play similarly, there are many other factors that have been compared between them. Such as their competitiveness on the tennis court, as well as their ongoing efforts to improve.

Smith and Todd Woodbridge added that the third-ranked tennis player in the world is also capable of winning multiple titles. Furthermore, the Australian star commended her by adding that she might have double digits in her Grand Slam count if she continues the same way on the tennis court.
