Venus Williams Shares Her One Wish for Coco Gauff While Praising Her Game

Coco Gauff received a ringing endorsement from tennis icon Venus Williams.

At just 20 years old, Coco Gauff is proudly representing the United States as their number one tennis player, following in the illustrious footsteps of seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams and her sister, Serena, who boasts an impressive 23 titles.

With one Grand Slam title already under her belt, Gauff is set to pursue her third title at the WTA Finals in November 2024.

Coco has often spoken about the profound influence that Venus and Serena have had on her career, and she is well on her way to establishing her own remarkable legacy in the sport, much like the legendary sibling duo before her. As she continues to rise in the ranks, Gauff’s journey showcases her dedication and potential to reshape the future of American tennis.

What did Venus Williams say about Coco Gauff?

Of late Venus Williams has made multiple media appearances as she promoted her new book titled ‘Strive: 8 Steps to Find Your Awesome’.

During an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show in America, the 44-year-old was asked about Gauff, who was in the crowd for one of her US Open matches as a child.

The former World number one is thrilled to see Gauff thriving and wishes the 2023 US Open winner all the best moving froward.

“It’s so exciting to see her explode,” Williams said. “She’s fantastic and, of course, I hope she wins every match.”

Did Venus Williams and Coco Gauff play against each other?

Williams and Gauff played two matches against one another on the WTA Tour.

Gauff announced herself on the big stage when she defeated Venus 6-4, 6-4 at Wimbledon in 2019, when she was just 15 years of age.

The pair played again the following year, this time at the Australian Open in the opening round. Gauff claimed a first set tiebreak before sealing a 7-6(5), 6-3 win.

Gauff and Williams have also played alongside each other. They entered the women’s doubles at the 2021 French Open.

They took on Zheng Saisai and Ellen Perez, and won the first set, before succumbing to a 7-6, 4-6, 3-6 loss.
