With nearly 9,000 cars listed on the Classic Driver Market, it’s fair to say we’ve seen our faire share of oddities appear in the classifieds, but this Lamborghini Countach Replica heading to Historics Auctioneers on September 14th has us scratching our heads…
“So you wanna be a player, but your wheels ain’t fine”, is a delightful line taken from the theme tune of MTV’s early 2000s smash TV Show ‘Pimp My Ride’, a show that single-handled rebranded a word once known for characters of a much seedier nature, transforming it into a word that stood for outrageous cars and even crazier modifications. Sure, this Lamborghini Countach isn’t a car blessed by the hands of West Coast Customs, nor does it hide a jacuzzi in the engine bay, but given that the car is registered as a 1982 Porsche, we are left wondering just what this crazy creation is, and that someone has spent a huge amount of time, effort and money into creating this one-off poster car replica. Now, the chance to break necks at every car show around Europe is yours, as it heads to Historic Auctioneer’s Pace of Autumn sale at Ascot Racecourse on September 14th.
So, what exactly are we looking at? Custom built using the correctly sized space frame, the replica is registered as a 1982 Porsche, as much of the underpinnings and drivetrain elements are taken from the Porsche. Instead of Ferruccio’s iconic V12, this quirky creation houses some all-American muscle, in the form of a 5.7-litre V8, mated to a Porsche manual gearbox. Built using the same measurements as the real Lambo, this replica boasts the correct curved Star-Glass, extending to the correct door handles, lock and lights.
Inside, the Miami Vice colour scheme continues, and screams 1980s nostalgia. While so many replicas do a pretty good job at copying the exterior, the cabin spaces can usually be an immediate giveaway, but the creators of this wannabe Lambo have studied the original carefully and replicated it well. The cabin boasts the boxy lines you’d expect from a real Lamborghini of this era, and even has an Alpine sound system for full 1980’s nostalgia.
If you’re after a car that is truly unlike anything else on the road, one that will result in onlookers staring and pointing at just about any car show, this 90% Countach is a labour of love and is now looking for its new home. Estimated at a fraction of the price of a real Lambo, make sure you’re bid ready at Historic Auctioneer’s upcoming sale at Ascott Racecourse!
