Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept Brings Sportiness and Flair to the Brand

Genesis is once again helping to kick off the New York Auto Show with the unveiling of the GV80 Coupe Concept which brings Genesis into the world of SUV coupes where style and performance are added into the default luxury blueprint. Unlike other concepts we have seen from Genesis though, this one is earmarked for production and looks ready to bring the fight to BMW and Mercedes-Benz

Vivid Orange Paint Highlights GV80 Coupe Concept Styling

The GV80 Coupe Concept (at least on the surface,) appears to be very similar to the standard GV80. However, the front grille gets new darkened inserts bigger air intakes and extra inlets underneath the grille. The headlights also appear to be slimmed down slightly but it’ll take a trained eye to spot that particular change.

The bulk of the spotlight though shines on the rear of the GV80 with the roof getting a chopped look to highlight its sporty looks while also falling in line with other offerings in this niche sub-segment. Full width double-bar taillights add a splash of personality to the rear while a roof mounted spoiler and extra trailing edges add depth and substance to the concept. Meanwhile the interior is largely carried over from the standard GV80 but the seats have been replaced with sportier racing seats with orange plaid stitching being used. the seat backs are also painted orange and the rear of the GV80 Coupe Concept gets a thick brace to increase rigidity.

Genesis didn’t shed light on what exactly is under the hood of the Coupe Concept but with the potent upgrades already present, we suspect that the 2,5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder isn’t under the hood. Instead, we think the range-topping twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 is lurking underneath the vivid bodywork.

When Will We See The Production Coupe Concept?

The other detail that remains a mystery is when the GV80 Coupe Concept will make its production debut but look for the model to perhaps appear as early as late 2023 early 2024. While we doubt that the race inspired details will make their way to production, look for the bulk of the handsome styling to carryover largely unchanged.
