Dejounte Murray of the Hawks Opens Up: How Fatherhood Transformed My Life

Hawks guard Dejounte Murray reveals unequivocally that he would likely be out of the NBA if not for his daughter Riley.

Murray described in an interview with Fox Sports the profound impact his daughter had on his life and how she guided him in the correct direction.

“I cannot lie to you while seated here.” Murray stated, “If it weren’t for my daughter, I would likely be out of the league.” “I firmly hold that belief. I never would have considered becoming an NBA player. “An X would appear next to my name because I would be feeding on the bulls—.”

“She made the change,” stated Murray. “Having a daughter helps me develop as a man by separating me from everything. It is as if deciding whether one will develop into a man who acts morally or whether one will inflict harm on oneself and, more significantly, on one’s offspring.

Murray’s Seattle, Washington, upbringing was marred by negative experiences. Having been exposed to a criminal environment and substance use, he might have succumbed to the temptations and possibly abandoned his NBA career.

Thankfully, he averted a calamity by utilizing basketball as an escape route.

“Sixteen years old is when I started doing the right thing,” asserted Murray. “I haven’t looked back since.”In the meantime, he is a pivotal component in the Spurs’ rebuilding process and is developing into one of the best guards in the NBA.

However, he returns to his daughter and the profound impact she had on his life.

“That is my child,” he reflected. “It is love,” Indeed, it is affection. “Whether I go bankrupt today or tomorrow, the affection will remain the same.”
